Called away by pressing family matters at the last moment, award-winning columnist FX Pedrix had Board member Drew Knox read his presentation letter:
It pains me to be missing my first DVBC holiday banquet after having attended so faithfully for so many years but on this occasion I have been called away by important family matters. In my absence, I have asked my good friend Drew Knox to read the announcement of the 2006 FX Pedrix True Cyclist of the Year Award:
- He is one of the longest-standing members of the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club.
- For long periods he has commuted to and from work by bicycle.
- He can be counted upon to volunteer to work in support of every formal DVBC biking tour.
- He is an expert bike mechanic willing and eager to share his knowledge with anyone who asks.
- He is a strong rider always willing to do his share at the front of the pace line.
- He is a true environmentalist, who drives a hybrid Toyota Prius and who faithfully volunteers for Chester , Ridley and Crum Creek Watershed Association cleanups, especially where access is only by bicycle.
- He taught a DVBC workshop on wheel-truing.
- He organized and led a DVBC 200-mile ride in 2004.
- He has ridden at least one century a year for 34 consecutive years, more years than some of us have been alive.
- He has ridden multi-day tours such as the Tour of Georgia, Upper Black Eddy, a tour of Utah 's National Parks, Bike Florida and tours in Virginia and Maryland on a tandem with his daughter Lauren.
- For several years he penned a monthly bike wisdom column for the club newsletter entitled “Woody's Wheel-wise.”
For all these reasons, and because he is an esteemed DVBC member of such high character who embodies the attributes of the award, it gives me great pleasure to present to you the 2006 FX Pedrix True Cyclist of the Year… Woody Kotch! |
